This Lemon Basil Garlic Butter recipe is quick and easy to make and so full of savory flavor. This butter is perfect for adding to grilled chicken, fish, steak, or bread.
There is a bounty of basil in our garden right now. Not that I’m complaining. Basil is something I wish we had an abundance of year round. It’s an easy herb to grow and such a great herb to add to so many dishes, or one of my favorites, Basil Pesto. With a happy green excess of Basil this time of the year using it in every way we can is a goal, so I decided to use a few handfuls to make thisLemon Basil Garlic compound butter (flavored butter), because butter is always a good thing right? Plus compound butter is a wonderful tasty addition to so many things like grilled chicken, fish, hamburgers, pasta, potatoes, and of course, bread of any kind.
This Lemon Basil Garlic Butter Recipecouldn’t be easier. For this compound butter fresh lemon zest, chopped basil and minced garlic are mixed with softened butter to create a flavorful packed combination that will make any biscuit better. The finished compound butter can be served right away or wrap tightly in wax paper and refrigerated for up to a week until ready to serve.
Try a pat of this butter on top of a steak, tuck some under the skin of a chicken before roasting it for some extra flavor, a bowl of your favorite cooked pasta, maybe Quick Baked Potatoes (YUM!), or try it with the next batch of garlic bread. It will surprise you at how much flavor just a little pat of this butter will add.

Sounds yummy! Can it be frozen and used in smaller batches?
Amy Johnson —
Hmmm … I would think so.

This looks yummy! I made something this summer called Bandera Butter – and it was wonderful on top of steaks/burgers, but I can’t wait to try this as well! Thanks!

I just made 8 batches of this with homemade butter. I had just harvested tons of basil and needed a quick way to preserve it. This did the trick. After I made the butter compound I placed in a cookie sheet and semi froze. Pulled it out and cut into little squares and threw it in my foodsaver and back into the freezer it goes in perfect little single servings. I can’t wait to try it!

What a smart idea, Melanie! I’ll totally be trying that next time. I have a ton of lime basil!

How long does it keep in the freezer? I am wanting to make some compound butters but I want to be able to make some up and freeze for later use.
Nancy —
Thanks for the tip. I’ll be freezing some as well.

Thank you so much. Besides the butter, how do you like to preserve an abundant harvest? I have a dehydrator, but I’m sure there are more tasty ways to save basil.
