Lumatek 30W UV Supplemental LED Light Bar (2024)

What is the Lumatek 30W UV Supplemental LED Light Bar?

Supercharge the already awesome Lumatek Zeus LEDs with the power of UV. Adding ultra-violet light is proven to give noticeable increases to the overall quality of your end crop. Be prepared for improved flavour, smell and essential oil production, these lights are the perfect choice for the grower who wants to produce the very best results. The strips are simple to install and can be daisy changed from a single power source.

Why do i need the Lumatek 30W UV Supplemental LED Light Bar?

The Lumatek 30W UV Supplemental Light LED Bar offers a Light Spectrum addition for growers who are looking to improve their crop’s quality through UV-B [280-315 nm] AND UV-A [315-400 nm] radiation doses to your plants during flower based on scientific support. Designed to be used alongside your existing light system, but has hooks made to fit directly on the Lumatek Zeus LED fixtures. The UV bars require their own independent power cable unit and can also be daisy-chainable. These are purchased separately.

Why Use UVA+UVB?

UV photons, like for humans, can be damaging, and as a response, plants trigger their self-defence mode so they can adapt to harsher conditions. Scientific studies have proven that small amounts of UV can have big effects! Notably, something called SECONDARY METABOLITES - these are flavour compounds, which will see an increase in taste, flavour, and smell as well as increasing plant durability. What happens is the plants develop thicker leaves in response to help them deal with the high energy, and develop an increase in oil production to serve as protection to help them tolerate the stressful conditions as a response you'll see darker purplish colouration and the development of these secondary metabolites.

A single fixture can provide 2.2 kJ/day (12 hours) of UV-B energy and 518 kJ/day (12 hours) of UV-A output. This translates to a fixture output of 100 mW of UV-B and 12000 mW UVA. Lumatek ensures that this fixture does not produce UV-C radiation. Integrate this technology together with the Lumatek Zeus LED Range frames and follow the directives on our Grow Light Strategies. Another benefit of UV is to help to control mould formation with gentle UV-B doses and reduce the need for chemical interventions by the effect of UV-A.

How To Use the Lumatek 30W UV Supplemental LED Light Bar:

Put them on a separate timer to your grow lights, and we recommend:

  • Start with 2 hours a day split over 2 x 1-hour intervals (within your light-on period).
  • Increase exposure by 15mins every TWO days and check for signs of burning on leaf tips - this is when you've hit "critical mass" and find the sweet spot for the amount your plant can absorb.

  • Note: The amount of UV will vary from 2 to 6 hours a day in grow tents and up to 12 hours in a bigger room.

Use throughout the entire flowering period.

WARNING: Do not be working under these lights when they're on. Time it so you're in the room when they're off, or suit up..and cover your eyes!!

    Recommended Coverage

The Lumatek 30W UV Supplemental LED Bar was designed to fit directly into the Zeus fixtures. To make sure you achieve the best light spread over the canopy, we recommend:

Integrate a minimum of 2 units of 30W UV Supplemental Light LED Bar, with:

    • ZEUS 465W 2.6 | 1.2 x 1.2 m footprint
    • ZEUS 600W 2.6 | 1.4 x 1.4 m footprint
    • ZEUS 465W PRO 2.9 | 1.2 x 1.2 m footprint
    • ZEUS 600W PRO 2.9 | 1.4 x 1.4 m footprint
    • ZEUS 1000W Xtreme CO2 | 1.5 x 1.5 m footprint w/ CO2 Supplement
    • .

Integrate a minimum 3 units of 30W UV Supplemental Light LED Bar, with:

    • ZEUS 1000W PRO | 1.5 x 2.0 m footprint

If you notice plant damage, we recommend increasing the distance between the fixture and canopy or decreasing the UV light output delivered to your plants by reducing the photoperiodic time.

FAQs

What LEDs does Lumatek use? ›

The new line of Zeus is built using high quality Lumatek drivers and latest generation top bin LEDs from Lumileds and Osram, generating a full-spectrum light source ideal for veg and flowering cycles.

Do LED lights give off UV for plants? ›

Many full-spectrum LEDs will emit just the right amount of each type of UV. It will mimic natural sunlight, too, so plants will feel as though they are being grown outdoors. There are even ceramic (CMH) grow lights that emit UV light, along with some double-ended (DE) bulbs.

How far should lumatek LED be from plants? ›

Lumatek advises a 50cm minimum distance during the whole cycle, but our experience brings some shades. For growing, you have two options: either you use a 100% power with a 80 to 100cm distance, or you can lower that power down to 50% as well as the panel down to 50cm.

What is the difference between grow LED and normal LED? ›

Grow lights and ordinary LED bulbs serve distinct purposes. While typical LEDs are for general illumination, LED grow lights are tailored for plant growth, replicating sunlight for indoor plants. They offer a richer light spectrum, emphasizing red, blue, and green, ensuring optimal plant growth.

What are the negative effects of UV light on plants? ›

Short wave (<350 nm) UV radiation negatively affects plant pathogens in direct and indirect ways. Direct effects can be ascribed to DNA damage, protein polymerization, enzyme inactivation and increased cell membrane permeability.

What color UV light is best for plants? ›

Blue: This is the most important light for plant growth. It is easy for chlorophyll to absorb and convert into energy. Red: As the second most important wavelength, red light is incredibly potent for plants when combined with blue light. Orange: Similar to red light, but less effective.

Do indoor plants need UV light? ›

What Kind of Light Do Plants Need to Grow? Contrary to popular belief, plants do not need ultraviolet (UV) light to grow. Plants require blue and red light, which are not a part of the UV color spectrum. Blue light encourages chlorophyll production, which helps the plants create strong and healthy stems and leaves.

What LEDs are used in grow lights? ›

LED grow lights can use different white LEDs ranging from warm white to cool white, in effect adjusting the percentage of blue in the spectrum. Deep red, UVA and Far Red LEDs can also be added to change and 'broaden' the spectrum as needed by the grower.

What type of LED is used for plants? ›

Full-Spectrum LEDs: These LED grow lights provide a broad spectrum of light, including blue, red, and sometimes even green and white. They aim to replicate natural sunlight and are suitable for a wide range of plants throughout their growth stages.

What is the difference between COB LED and SMD LED grow light? ›

COB LEDs will typically send light out in all directions (180 degrees) rather than in specific narrow angles typical with SMD LEDs. Unlike SMD LEDs which have a specific spectrum in each diode, COB LEDs start out as all blue LED diodes.

Do you need special LEDs to grow plants? ›

Can I use regular LED lights or do I need LED grow lights? You can use regular LEDs but you'll get better results with LED grow lights. LED bulbs and strips usually produce white light, which is helpful for general plant growth. However, plants really need blue and red light to thrive.
