CITY ADMINISTRATION

Project Management Updates

  • The Information Technology (IT) team continues to reconfigure network applications and restore access – critical applications such as Munis (ESS, CSS, & Energov), RecTrac, and MCRS have been restored.
  • The Energov Implementation is on track to launch in mid-August 2024. This implementation will include Tyler Payments and Cashiering and updated GIS maps.
  • Coordination of the Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for the 200 W. Center St. acquisition is underway.

Employee Advisory Team

On Tuesday, April 30, the Employee Advisory Team (EAT) gathered to celebrate Diversity Month with a potluck. Members shared dishes representing their cultural backgrounds, which forged a pathway to discuss how everyone’s uniqueness makes them an excellent fit for their role in the City of Champions! Participants welcomed new members and shared their appreciation of what this team represents while conversing about City Manager Finch's accomplishments in his first 90 days as City Manager.

DUNCANVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
  • Fire Chief Sam Rohde retired on April 30 after thirty-nine years and four months of service with the City of Duncanville.
  • Driver/Engineer Steven Hatley and Firefighter/Paramedic Ben Hayle were recognized for twenty years of service with the City of Duncanville.
  • Regional Emergency Management Operations Coordinator Lauren Sanchez and EM Specialist Raqheal Payne presented City Emergency Management to Desoto Citizens Fire Academy. Ms. Sanchez also presented on Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) with the Tri-City Animal Shelter at the Texas Unites for Animals Conference. The planning kickoff is under way for the Juneteenth Celebration, which will held in Cedar Hill.
  • Lacey Freeman continues to prepare for the Grand Opening of the new Fire Station, which will be held on Friday, May 3.

FISCAL SERVICES

Accounting & Reporting – Week of April 24 – April 30:

  • Electronic Funds Transfer Payments: 69 invoices were processed, totaling $1,652,508.88.
PARKS AND RECREATION

Parks

  • Crews conducted playground repairs at Lakeside Park, Chris Paris Park, and Willow Run Park.
  • Crews assisted the Police Department with the ‘A Light of Hope’ water lantern ceremony at Lakeside Park(photo below).
  • Parks has received permanent Kidsville plaques (pictured below); installation has been completed.
  • Crews are assessing the Parks signs inventory.
  • Tree maintenance continues around the City.
  • Crews continue mulching flower beds in the downtown corridor, Lakeside Park, Recreation Center/Library, and theatre center beds.
  • Bed maintenance continues around Armstrong Park, City Hall, Recreation Center,Library,and various medians.
  • Athletic Fields maintenance continues.

Duncanville Fieldhouse

The 2024 B.O.S.S. Summer Camp registration begins on April 15.

Activities include field trips, dance, cooking, football, basketball, volleyball, gym games, table games, cheer, arts and crafts, and tumbling.

PUBLIC WORKS

Street Division

  • Crews repaired the tie-in on Hill City Dr.
  • Five potholes were patched on Thrush Ave. and Linkcrest Dr.
  • Crews completed installation of ads pipes on Roundtop Blvd.
  • Crews repaired utility cuts on Middale Rd., Ridge Rock Ln., and Bradley Dr.
  • Thirteen headwalls were cleaned on Hill City Dr., Golden Dr., Meadow Ln., Hill Rd., and Jungle.
  • Crews removed debris from the right-of-way on W. Center St. and Aspen Dr.
  • The fallen tree blocking Cedar Hill Rd. has been removed.

Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Construction

Fire Station 271

  • The new Fire Station 271 Grand Opening is scheduled for Friday, May 3.

Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements

  • Stoic has started the gabion wall installation at Site 3b.
  • Stoic has begun constructing the gabion wall at Site 3a and drilling rock anchors.

Wren Ave. and Oriole Blvd. Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing

  • Crews are collecting bacteriological samples.

Softwood Dr. Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair

  • Crews are installing the sewer main from Creekhaven Dr. and Softwood Dr. east to the new manhole for the aerial crossing.

Other Construction

  • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) I-20 Construction co*ckrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from co*ckrell Hill Rd. in Duncanville to Hampton Rd. in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and co*ckrell Hill Rd. on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.
BUILDING INSPECTIONS
  • A total of 1,971 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with zero new properties registered since the last update. Ten inspections have been completed since the previous update; nine passed, one failed, and zero were canceled. The primary reason for the failed inspections was the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter.
  • (GFCI) protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
  • Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in April 2024, 154 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  • This week, 108 Building inspections and 16 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $23,267.00.
  • This week, 70 permits were issued.
